A little preparation can make your visit smoother.
When you schedule your appointment, there are a couple of things we recommend doing before you arrive.
Please bring
- Patient forms: New-patient forms can be completed at either office. If we send forms before your visit, fill them out before you arrive. If you arrive without them, that is all right.
- A loved one: Bring someone close to you to help remember the information shared during the appointment.
If you arrive without the forms or a companion, that is okay. The forms can also be completed at either hearing clinic location.
From welcome to answers, every part has a purpose.
Your first appointment combines conversation, diagnostic testing, an explanation of your results, and a discussion of the hearing solutions that may fit your needs.
Start with a warm welcome.
Once you enter our office, a Patient Care Coordinator will greet you. The practice keeps fresh-baked cookies available and plays the show Cheers in the waiting room to make the time before your appointment more comfortable.
If you have not completed the new patient form, the Patient Care Coordinator will provide the form you need.
Tell us what you are experiencing.
After you are called back, a board-certified hearing instrument specialist will conduct a personal hearing interview. The specialists on staff are vetted by lead hearing instrument specialist Robyn Lofton.
You will discuss why you made the appointment and how you are currently dealing with your hearing situation. Your specialist will also explain how hearing works and common hearing issues. Ask questions at any time.
Measure how you hear in a controlled setting.
You will be taken into a noise-controlled sound booth for a two-stage hearing evaluation conducted by a hearing instrument specialist. You will respond to different audio stimuli during the tests.
- Tone Threshold Test: Pure-tone sounds at different pitches and frequencies are used to assess the range of your hearing.
- Speech Recognition Test: You hear and repeat words spoken at different volumes and indicate when you cannot hear them.
The office uses current diagnostic technology to provide accurate results and help determine your level of hearing difficulty and potential candidacy for hearing aids, tinnitus treatment, or other hearing devices.
Understand what your results mean for you.
After the evaluation, your hearing specialist will give you an in-depth explanation of what your hearing results mean and provide an overview of your hearing treatment options.
Depending on the treatment you need, your specialist may demonstrate hearing technology selected for your hearing needs. Devices shown may be available to take home the same day, which can be especially important for people struggling with severe tinnitus.
Experience the device in your own world.
When you find a device suited to your needs, you can try before you buy and take the hearing device home for a test run. Using it in your own environments lets you see how it performs under the pressure of everyday life.
After the trial, you return to the office to ask any remaining questions and finalize your decision.
You will never be rushed through your appointment.
Our passion is helping people improve their quality of life through better hearing. You should always feel comfortable asking questions and discussing concerns with your hearing instrument specialist.
